Upcoming Age Group Alignment Update

As we prepare for the upcoming season, we want to share an important update regarding age group alignment and what it means for our players and families.

Beginning next season, age groups will no longer be based on the calendar year (January 1 – December 31). Instead, they will follow a school-year format (August 1 – July 31).

What does this mean?

Players will now be grouped based on a school-year cutoff. For example, instead of all players born in 2014 being grouped together, teams will now include players born between August 1, 2013 and July 31, 2014.

How This May Impact Your Player

There are two possible outcomes:

  • Natural progression: Some players will move up to the next age group as expected (for example, a 2014 player moving from U12 to U13).

  • Same age group: Players born on or after August 1 may remain in their current age group (for example, a 2014 player staying in U12).

Our Approach as a Club

We understand how important team chemistry, coaching relationships, and player confidence are. Because of this, “playing up” will continue to be an option when it supports a player’s development.

All placement decisions will be made with a development-first mindset, in collaboration with our coaching staff. Some players may benefit from staying with their current team, while others may thrive in their new age group.

Please note: due to game format requirements, there is a maximum of four players who can move between formats (for example, from 7v7 to 9v9 teams).

If you have questions about how this change impacts your player, we encourage you to reach out—we’re here to help guide you through the process.

Early Club Commitment

Indiana Soccer allows an Early Club Commitment option for returning players who already know they would like to continue with Southern Indiana United for the 2026–2027 season.

This option gives eligible returning players the opportunity to secure a roster spot with their current club before formal tryouts begin. It is designed to help reduce the stress that can come with the annual tryout process.

A few important reminders:

  • Early commitment is generally intended for returning players.

  • A parent or guardian must sign and date the club’s commitment form.

  • Indiana Soccer policy prohibits clubs from pressuring families into making a quick decision.

  • Early commitment is simply an option for families who are ready to recommit for the upcoming season.

Families interested in Early Club Commitment should contact their current coach for more information about the process.

If you have questions about tryouts, age groups, registration, or Early Club Commitment, please reach out to our Director of Coaching, Brett Bass. (e) Doc@siusoccer.com  (c) 812 200 0601
