The Program

Our select program provides an atmosphere in which boys and girls ages 8-19 can develop strong soccer skills and self-discipline to rise to the top of their game. For young athletes with a passion for soccer, the rewards of select soccer are greater and the opportunities to advance to high school, college and professional play are unmatched by recreational play.

Our Philosophy

Southern Indiana United is a soccer club that is committed to player development. Our experienced coaches foster the physical and emotional growth of our players, both on and off the soccer field. In addition to teaching strong basic skills, SIU will prepare them for the rigors of competition.

Our Experience

We have been a soccer club since 1989--starting with recreational leagues which have grown into both a rec division and a select (try-out, traveling) team. Each of our coaches are fully licensed Soccer Coaches in the state of IN. Two of our coaches have their National Youth Soccer Coaching License and have over 30+ years of coaching behind them.

Our close affiliation with the coaches from Southern Indiana High Schools enables us to tailor our development to produce players capable of playing on high school teams and beyond.

Tryouts and Registration

Tryouts are held at the end of the season after June 1st. The coaches decide player selection for each team. Players will be placed on teams in their age level based on their soccer skills. Moving players from one team to another, or playing up in age, will be viewed as the exception to the rule, and will require the approval of the Director of Coaching, the VP-Select and the age group coaches. Any player placement issues should be addressed with the VP-Select. After each team is selected, every player who tried out will be contacted, at which time the player must register and pay the deposit (or pay in full) via the link on our website and then submit necessary forms to the Team Manager. Travel Program Tryouts – FAQ

Q: What should my child bring to tryouts?
A: Players should bring cleats, shin guards, a ball, water bottle, and wear appropriate athletic gear. Please arrive 15–20 minutes early to check in and receive their tryout shirt.

Q: Do returning players need to try out?
A: Yes, all players—new and returning—must attend tryouts each year to be evaluated.

Q: What if my child can’t attend tryouts or can only attend one session?
A: Before or upon registration, please send an email to doc@siusoccer.com and traveldirector@siusoccer.com with the your player's name and dates of try-out attendance (if there are any). Coaches will be notified so your player can be evaluated in all necessary skills at the tryout they are able to attend. In some cases we can arrange an alternate evaluation.

Q: How are players selected for teams?
A: Players are evaluated on technical skill, tactical understanding, athletic ability, and attitude. Team placement is based on performance and positional needs.

Q: When will team selections be announced?
A: Initial team invitations will be sent within 48 hours of the player's final day of tryouts. These invites confirm a spot in the program. Final team placement (Red, Blue, or Gray) will be shared via email or TeamSnap within 1–2 weeks after tryouts are complete.
